What??!!! Mickey Rooney in Kingston?

Hollywood Legend Mickey Rooney coming in September!

This one has to go into the "believe it or not" category! Hollywood legend Mickey Rooney, who is turning 90 on Sept.23, is crossing Canada on a farewell tour and will make a stop at Kingston's Grand Theatre on Wed. Sept.29. Along with his wife Jan Rooney, 2 singers, and a three piece band, he will sing songs, show film clips, and tell tales of his 80+ years in show business. The man who was married to Ava Gardner (and 7 others), co-starred in half a dozen Judy Garland movies, and counted Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor among his close friends, certainly has lots of material to work with.

In a career that goes all the way back to Vaudeville, the 89 year old actor has worked with the likes of Judy Garland, Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Spencer Tracy, Bob Hope and Ava Gardner, to name just a few. And Rooney has never stopped working. He recently starred in the much acclaimed comedy "Night at the Museum" with Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, Ricky Gervais and Dick Van Dyke.

Mr. Rooney has asked his management to book a small string of dates in Eastern Canada, where he has not been since WW2, and another string in western Canada, where he has fond memories of Banff from his youth.

"Let's Put On A Show!" is an autobiographical musical, highlighted with film clips, humour and anecdotal memories, which enjoyed a successful run Off-Broadway in New York and  in London's West End. Mickey is excited to share the stage with his wife of 31 years, the singer/actress Jan Rooney. Drawing on a rich 80 plus year career, the musical numbers are broad ranged and are taken from Mickey's films, as well as some original tunes and Jan's vast repertoire, including her tribute to Patsy Cline.

Additionally, the show features a moving tribute to Mickey's famous co-star from his days at MGM, Judy Garland with whom he had a long and enduring friendship.  "Let's Put on a Show!" kicked off in August 2007 with a successful 25 show tour of the United Kingdom and Ireland. In the US they have played sold out shows in major cities throughout the country.
